Packing light can be really difficult to do, but it will make your trip much more enjoyable…’cos that means traveling light.

Learning some cultural norms before the trip enables you to blend in to that society; instead of being a total stranger.

My luggage is black, like all my clothing. But I laid on a distinctive pattern of white duct-tape. Then I grabbed a magic marker and wrote on the tape “I belong to a big guy dressed in black.”

And I seal my itinerary, e-ticket info, and any google-map type stuff I do ahead of time into a zip-lock baggie, with the pages most likely to be needed next visible from the outside. (You never know when some kid might barf in your briefcase – as my son did to some poor guy on a London>Paris flight!)

The next destinations sound wonderful. Ours is Buenos Aires, then a short hop over to Houston for dance festival, then Hawaii, then Greece, then Paris and then I am not sure what !! The world is such a small place, you only have to fly to see it!

Great list! I always try and pack as light as possible. I find you never use half the stuff in your suitcase anyway.

A part from winning the big prize in the contest “who’s going to leave 10 comments on my blog in less than 1 hour” I have to agree with you that sitting at the emergency exits is a little bit windy and cold. I avoid it whenever I can.

Great post Dragos, all great tips.

Only two points I disagree on are;

Don’t sleep more than 2-3 hours. I usually try to sleep as much as possible on the flights (to crash time and be fit when I arrive). I can easily sleep 6-8 hours on a flight (but I guess this is personal, it feels great to arrive fit and awake).

Usually when I take my shoes off, its very cold and drafty, so unless I have an extra pair of socks, I don’t take my shoes off.

Initially I always used to take a seat at the emergency exit because of the extra leg space, but I stopped doing it, because it is extremely drafty, even if you have 3 blankets. I rather have a bit of less leg space.
