@Jonathan Well, going through lean financial times it's beneficial, I agree, but only after you've successfully been through it. I know because I've been there. During the storm, the therapeutical benefits are the last thing on your mind, an you're only focusing on getting over it. After several ups an downs you start developing a pattern and from there you are able to see things a little bit clearer.

I like this: "The best things in life still have nothing to do with money." :-)

I actually think that it is emotionally healthy to go through lean financial times. We learn to balance our view of money and to stay realistic. Having too much or too little can make money the focus of our lives, which is not a very balance perspective. The best things in life still have nothing to do with money. You offer some sound advice here Dragos and I think it’s extremely timely right now.

@Stephen Well, my experience with frugality tends to relate to stressful intervals. I learned frugality in difficult periods, times when I should decide in the split of a second if I would invest money in a new computer or in a new person. Basically, frugality was a mean for me to discipline my investment habits and I learned it the hard way.

The rule of thumb was always: how much this will take out from the current situation and how much will improve a future situation? How much money should / can I take out of my plate now and how much this money will bring in in the near future.

Hope this helps. :-)

Nice article Dragos. I think the "Move Faster" advice is very important. Move faster and trust your instinct. I struggle with being frugal. I have problems deciding what is wasting time on the trivial vs. what pays off in the end. I know there is value in being frugal but I'm always worried that I will be wasting energy on saving pennies instead of earning dollars. Any advice there?

Great post. I like the "Move Faster" part best and will apply that to my situation. Thanks.
