@BunnygotBlog Thanks for the comments. Making mistakes is normal, as long as you don't repeat them :-)...

Hello,
I like the - hire for attitude, train for skills part also. The attitude has to be one of persistence and dedication so I guess I would have the same feel as Mike on this.

If a person isn't passionate about the work then learning it isn't going to mean he will be productive at it.

Really respect your insight on mistakes. I think anything can be turned around into something positive as long as a lesson is learned from it.

Love the series .
Cheers

@Mike King thanks for commenting here, I appreciate your contribution. Willing to learn means really, really willing to learn and is always combined with the #1 question: the job is really wanted? If not, the willing to learn will never turn into action. Or at least that's my experience with this :-)

Definitely another useful and solid article Dragos. One comment is your 3 hiring criteria. I agree to hire for attitude but your wording makes it sound a little weak, especially with willing to learn. I have met many people willing to learn things but not at the level I want or expect so I look for someone who has an absolutely passion and desire to learn and has demonstrated that in their lives beyond school. Anyone can say they are willing to learn so willing is not enough, they must show it and highly desire it. That will lead them to learn such a role quickly.

Great points on the relationship aspects though, I think it applies in any size company as good advice, unfortunately big company systems are designed to get in the way of that though.
